The Elements of Fiction Writing
4-Week Session
6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. (Tuesdays only)
January 20 - February 10
This 4-week workshop is designed to for fiction writers. Through creative exercises and discussion, we will explore plot and structure, descriptions, character development, and crafting dialogue. Course time 1.50 hours per week.
January 20: Overview of elements of storytelling: Focus on setting, plot and structure, observation and description.
January 27: Creating Complex Characters. Assembling a cast of characters; importance of backstory, emotion and viewpoint.
February 3: Crafting Dialogue. Creating dialogue that drives the story; narrative and action; pace; finding your characters "voice."
February 10: Putting it all together. Using the techniques studied in this workshop.
