A Night of Wine and Music

Wine-tasting fundraiser to benefit BUUC

Brookfield, MA – The Membership Committee of the Brookfield Unitarian Universalist Church, located at 9 Upper River Street (on the Brookfield Common) is hosting “A Night of Wine and Music” on Saturday, November 11, at 7:00 p.m. All proceeds to benefit the various financial needs of the Brookfield Unitarian Universalist Church.

The historic church, often referred to as the Stone Church, dates back to 1912. Like many buildings its age the mortar holding the stones together is crumbling and is in need of costly restoration. “Our committee thought a wine-tasting event would be a fun way to raise much needed capital and introduce people from surrounding communities to our church,” said Rita Schiano, chairperson the BUUC Membership Committee.

The wine-tasting begins at 7:00 p.m. People can sample select, premium wines from around the world. “Many bottles have been donated by our members, eager to share their great finds and favorites. And we are thankful to a number of local businesses for their generous contributions, too.” A list of sponsors will be made available to all attendees the night of the event

At 8:00 p.m., Rob Adams, a musical fixture in Central Massachusetts since the 1980s, will entertain the crowd. Adams performs each week at the Ugly Duckling Loft in Sturbridge and is a founding member of the trio She's Busy. Appearing with his sons in the group New England Weather. Worcester Magazine's Matt Quinn said, Adams plays guitar with "a fluid and filigreed technique," and sings with "a smooth, baritone voice." Rita Schiano, a former New York jazz singer, will join Adams.

The evening will wrap up with more wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres, “and coffee, of course,” said Schiano. “No UU event is complete if we don’t serve coffee!

“I hope people from surrounding communities will join us for Saturday, November 11 for this night of wine and music. Come find out why we’re called ‘The Little Stone Church That Rocks!’”

The event is open to the public. For a suggested donation of $10.00 people can sample six varieties of wine, hear Rob and Rita, enjoy great food, and have a chance to win a number of gourmet goodies basket.” I.D. is required. Must be 21 years of age to attend.   -30-
