Sustainable Food Systems Subject of Discussion
Brookfield, MA – The Green Sanctuary Committee of the Brookfield Unitarian Universalist Church (BUUC), is sponsoring six-session discussion course entitled “Menu For The Future” that will explore the connection between food and sustainability. The course will be held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of February, March, and April beginning February 10. The discussions will take place at the Brookfield Unitarian Universalist Church, 9 Upper River Street, Brookfield, MA. There is no fee for the course; however, there is a cost of $20 plus shipping for the book.
The discussion program was designed by the Northwest Earth Institute (www.nwei.org). “The goals of the course are to explore food systems and their impacts on culture, society and ecological systems; to gain insight into agricultural and individual practices that promote personal and ecological well-being; and to consider one’s role in creating or supporting sustainable food systems,” said Emily Duchesne, a member of the Green Sanctuary Committee.
The Green Sanctuary Committee is a group dedicated to helping the BUUC congregation live out its commitment to the Earth by creating sustainable lifestyle alternatives for its members. Their goal is to make the BUUC and the surrounding community more ecologically aware or ‘green.’ The committee is focused on guiding the community in ways to achieve sustainable consumption. “Environmental consciousness is a step-by-step process that helps one change one’s lifestyle by small adjustments,” added Duchesne.
