Green Thumb Florist Owner Receives Community Service Award

Brimfield, MA – Joyce Stocks, Brimfield resident and owner of Green Thumb Florist and Gardens in Brimfield, has been selected to receive a Community Service Award from Rehabilitative Resources, Inc. (RRI). This is the third year Ms. Stocks has received this honor. The Annual Recognition Luncheon is being held on Friday, October 27 from 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Rom’s Restaurant in Sturbridge.

“Rehabilitative Resources is the local organization that reaches out to those in need in our community. That’s why I am an avid supporter. We provide flower arrangements for their luncheons, the Annual Dinner, and other functions as needed.” Green Thumb Florist is providing the floral centerpieces for this event.

Rehabilitative Resources, Inc. has been assisting the developmentally disabled in Massachusetts for more than thirty years through daily-living training programs, transportation, shared or supported living facilities, and employment support. RRI’s administrative and training offices are located in Sturbridge.

RRI is not the only organization to receive Ms. Stocks’ support. The Brookfield Unitarian Universalist Church also benefits from Green Thumb Florist’s generosity. “Every time a BUUC church member buys flowers from us, I donate a percentage of the sale back to the church.” A benevolent gesture considering Ms. Stocks is not a member of the congregation.

Ms. Stocks is a firm believer in assisting the area schools, particularly when it helps raise money for school programs. This year Green Thumb Florist and Gardens is providing table flowers to the Tantasqua Music Association at cost. She also donates floral arrangements to the Brimfield Senior Center each month and for their holiday party.

Having been in business for over nineteen years, Stocks receives numerous requests for donations. “I weigh the requests that come in, while staying the course on the groups I currently support. There are numerous organizations, groups, and individuals in need of assistance. I believe the business community needs to find ways to help out.”
